Organizational Background
The Galilee Multi-Cultural Center is one of the few places in Israel where citizens of all backgrounds meet on equal terms and work together toward a common goal. Since the organization was launched in 1998, the members have dedicated themselves to advancing social causes such as coexistence, equality and environmentalism, and promoting an appreciation of traditional and classical music.
In recognition of its success, the Theater won the Ford Prize for Environmentalism in 2001, and one of its productions won a grant from UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) in 2002.
In addition to the theater group, the Galilee Multi-Cultural Center has produced several other programs, including:
"A Little More Respect": This project arranges encounters between arab and Jewish students in the context of the arts.
"A Question of Identity": Consists of educational tours for professional groups and organizations, including meetings with people from different backgrounds and discussions on various issues.
"Gateway to Israeli Society": This program aims to bridge the gap between new immigrants and veteran citizens through the arts.
The founder and director of the Multi-Cultural Center is Ella Iungman, a successful architect and environmental designer. |
